In a couple of weeks I’ll be teaching a Sunday School — *ahem*, Adult Discipleship Class — on covenant theology. Here’s the punch line:

Sound and Fury, Signifying . . . Very Little
Barnes v. Felix changes nothing for most of us, because, contrary to so much weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth, the Supreme Court did not change the use of force standard. In fact, it was the 5th Circuit which decided to implement their own use of force standard, and in the Barnes opinion, the Supreme Court simply brought them back onto the reservation.

Doctrinal Idolatry
We can make our theology an idol And idols, by definition, transgress the greatest commandment: to love God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength, as well as lead us to violate the second greatest commandment: to love our neighbor as ourselves.

God, the Father of Nepotism
Heavenly, Godly nepotism is entirely righteous, and our only hope, the basis for our salvation.

Once-For-All
All we need to do is rest in the knowledge that Christ committed himself to us once-and-for-all, and that is more than enough

Election 2024: Getting Queasy
I love my country, and that’s what’s causing me to be somewhat . . . troubled. Because despite my faith in God’s sovereignty, my family — and yours — may still have to deal with any civil unrest that could result from the 2024 election.

Self-Condemnation and Self-Forgiveness
I look to the Cross for forgiveness from God. Where do I look for self-forgiveness?

Yamaha DX21
In about 1986 or ’87 I purchased a Yamaha DX21 with money I didn’t have. A few years later I had to sell it, much to my regret. Recently I saw came across a guy that was selling a DX21 for a very, very reasonable price. So I am now, again, the proud owner of a DX21.

Saturdays With The Jehovah’s Witnesses.
Eschatology (end times), baptism, the “do”s and “don’t”s of daily living — we can agree on all of it, and none of it matters if we don’t get the fundamental question of Jesus right.

Confidence and Assurance
The Church is way too timid, because we do not understand who we are because of who Christ is and what He has done. A great deal of this timidity stems from a misunderstanding — or even ignorance — of our standing before God in Christ.
