True story. The other day I was having a discussion with the Lord God. It was a rather rambling thing (as my prayers sometimes tend to be — I go down a lot of rabbit holes, and He goes there with me), but I was feeling somewhat discouraged and frustrated, and was looking for some encouragement from the God of the universe. The gist of it boiled down to this:
Me: Lord, I’d really like you to give me a sign. Nothing big or spectacular. No theophany, or hands writing on walls, or burning bushes, or anything like that. Just some small sign that lets me know you’re there, and you love me, and you’re on my side, and you’re working for my good.
God: I did already.
Me: Really? When?
God: She sleeps beside you every night.
And there it was. No small sign, but a massive billboard for God’s love for me. She is my queen, who holds my heart in her hands. She puts up with me, loves me, encourages me, and makes me a better man. She is the reason our marriage works. She shows me Jesus in ways I can’t even imagine or understand. She is truly an excellent woman. (Proverbs 31:10-31)
The Fair Maiden Donna is celebrating a birthday today. Without being too self-centered, I am nevertheless convinced that on the day of her birth, the Lord God had me in mind. And I love her more today than I did yesterday, but not as much as I will tomorrow.
I have found the one whom my soul loves.
